Practice Plus Standards:-

  • The organisational culture demonstrates a genuine commitment to flexible retirement
  • Positive encouragement for staff approaching retirement to take up flexible working patterns including all general practice staff
  • All staff including general practice staff continue to have access to an appropriately trained and resourced childcare co-ordinator, who is active as parent’s advisor and advocate for flexible working patterns.
  • Accessible, affordable and good quality childcare support is available to meet diverse needs of staff with children, including those in general practice, and demonstrates a clear commitment to equality and diversity
  • Positive support provided for and taken up by staff who are carers
  • Carers manage a healthy balance between their work and their commitments outside work.

Flexible Retirement - Offering more flexible routes to retirement, such as part time work and a chance to wind down, can help staff extend their contribution and reduce pressures on staffing levels. Mature and experienced staff have a great deal to offer the PCT.   Retirement involves a significant change in lifestyle. All staff should take the opportunity to plan for their retirement and it is recommended that staff should start planning for retirement at least five years before the date they intend to retire.

Summary of findings from 2nd Self Assessment - March 2005

Support for Carers - PCT provisions are intended to support staff in dealing with unexpected or other emergencies and to make any longer term arrangements. They should not be regarded as "rights or entitlements" to time off, with or without pay, but rather as provisions which are available to support the partnership approach and are based upon the principles of fairness, reasonableness and co-operation and upon the needs of the service and of individual personal circumstances.
