Integrated Translation and Interpretation Service (ITIS)

It's estimated that 307 different languages are regularly spoken in the UK. The PCT is working to ensure that language and communication problems do not interfere with good care and treatment for patients and their families.

The PCT employs Link Workers - Yasmin Manjra and Ilyas Adam - who can provide face to face interpretation in Urdu, Hindi and Gujarati, by appointment.
Please contact : Yasmin.Manjra@bolton.nhs.uk (tel 01204 874393) or Ilyas.Adam@bolton.nhs.uk (tel 01204 874392)

If anyone requires help finding an interpreter for any other language, including British Sign Language, please contact the Fairness Team at Bolton Council :

Please complete all sections of this form as missing information could further delay booking of an interpreter. Information will also be used to improve future planning and development of the service.
  2. Quick Guide to Interpretation & Translation Service

For a British Sign Language interpreter for the deaf outside normal office hours, the RNID runs an out of hours service which can be contacted on 0700 341 8352.
An alternative point of contact for BSL interpreters is the Deafness Resource Centre in St Helens which provides BSL interpreters, Lipspeakers, Speech to Text Reporters and Notetakers who are specially trained and qualified to work in clinical settings.
Introduction to the Deafness Resource Centre and Leaflet
Office hours Monday - Friday 9.00am - 5.00pm 01744 23887 (voice) Minicom 01744 23887, Fax 01744 611540, 07779 708360 (mobile and sms).

The NIS service and the Link Workers are centrally funded. Other interpreters or translation services are funded by the service using them.

It is recommended that family members should not be used for interpreting unless the patient specifically requests this, in which case a note to this effect should be completed and signed by the patient for the record.
