Breastfeeding Your Baby
Bolton PCT promotes breastfeeding as the best way to feed your baby.
Breastfeeding gives your baby all the nutrients he or she needs for the
first six months of life. It helps to protect him or her from infection and
other diseases.
It reduces mum’s chances of getting some illnesses later in life.
Breastfeeding also helps you and your baby to get closer – physically and
emotionally - while your baby is feeding, the bond between you can grow
stronger.
Bottle feeding does not give your baby the same ingredients as breastmilk,
which is easy for your baby to absorb and is a perfect food to help him or
her grow and develop. Infant formula milk doesn’t provide protection against
infection and other diseases.
If you want more information about breastfeeding, you can contact your own
midwife or Health Visitor, or call into one of our breastfeeding support
groups as detailed below.
