NHS Care Records Service

Welcome to Bolton PCT’s web pages about the NHS Care Records Service.

All patients registered with a GP in Bolton should now have received a letter through the post advising of the important changes to the way in which your health information is managed. If you haven’t received a letter, click here to read a copy.

This exciting initiative is supported by GPs across Bolton as they believe it will mean better, safer care wherever you are treated.

The new service is called the NHS Care Records Service. As a first step, allergies, current prescriptions and any previous bad reactions to medicines will be available to people treating patients in a range of locations. This is called a Summary Care Record; it will help staff to provide better, safer care. Staff will only be permitted to access information if they are involved in your treatment, with access to your record being controlled by strict security measures.

Bolton GPs have considered this carefully and believe that it’s in the best interests of patients to introduce this new service. You may be aware from media coverage that 11 of the 57 practices across Bolton are already involved and that Summary Care Records will be created for the patients of those practices in the next few weeks.
