MENTORS  - KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ASSOCIATE MENTOR

• Support the qualified Mentor in the assessment process by supporting and supervising student nurses in the placement area
• Undertake ongoing observation and discussion with the student to assess the students level of confidence
• Through discussion, engage in feedback with the qualified Mentor prior to the initial, mid point and final interview of the student
• In conjunction with the qualified Mentor, conduct and record student interviews
• Provide feedback to the qualified Mentor regarding observations and perceptions of the students progress, strengths and shortfalls
• Assess the student against the outcomes and competencies in collaboration with the qualified Mentor
• Act as a role model for the student
• Facilitate practice teaching and experience
• Assist and support students in learning new skills and acquiring new attitudes
• Contribute to the enhancement of the learning environment
• Contribute to the Educational Audit of the learning environment
