Agenda for Change
How to check if pay is correct.
Example 1
Step 1
Check where you were on the Whitley pay scale at Oct 1st 2004
(Annex 1)
This should be on your assimilation letter if you don't have your
pay slips
Eg 1.. A+C 4 on 2nd increment (point 14) =£14,665
Eg 2 A+C 3 on 4th increment ( point 12) =£14,041
Step 2
Find the new band that you are due to be moved to. Read down it
to the increment that is immediately above the Whitley level. Look
at the left hand side of the page to see what level you are at on
the spine (Annex 2)
Eg.1 If you go to :- Band 3=£15,024 (point 11 on afc scale)
Band 4=£14,811 (transitionary point)
Move to point 12 after one year
Eg.2 If you go to:- Band 2 =£14,278 (point 9 on afc scale- at
top of band)
Band 3 = £14,278 (point 9 on afc scale- near middle of band)
Step 3
On the 1st April 2005 there was a cost of living rise (Annex 3)
Eg. 1 Band 3 =£15,509 (point 11 on afc scale)
Band 4 = £15,289 (transitionary point)
Eg 2 Band 2 =£14,739 (point 9 on afc scale)
Band 3 =£14,739 (point 9 on afc scale)
Whenever your incremental date comes into effect you move to the
next point on the afc scale
Eg. 1 Band 3 =£16,004 (point 12 on afc scale)
Band 4 =£16,004 (point 12 on afc scale)
Eg 2 Band 2 =£14,739 (NB. Doesn't change as at top of bands)
Bands 3 =£15,069 (point 10 on afc scale)
If you have been at the top of your Whitley grade for more than a
year then your incremental date is Oct 1st.
Example 2
Step 1
Check where you were on the Whitley pay scale at Oct 1st 2004
(Annex 1)
This should be on your assimilation letter if you don't have your
pay slips
Eg. Sen. 1 on 4th increment = £26,640
Step 2
Find the new band that you are due to be moved to. Read down it
to the increment that is immediately above the Whitley level. Look
at the left hand side of the page to see what level you are at on
the spine (Annex 2)
Eg. Band 6 = £26,958 (Point 29 on the afc scale)
Step 3
On the 1st April 2005 there was a cost of living rise (Annex 3)
Eg. Band 6 =£27,828 (still at point 29 on the afc scale)
Whenever your incremental date comes into effect you move to the
next point on the afc scale
Eg. Band 6 = £28,817 = point 30 on the afc scale
If you have been at the top of your Whitley grade for more than a
year then your incremental date is Oct 1st.
How Student Training Allowance is taken into account
Step 1
Calculate basic pay +STA at Oct 1st 2004
(STA will be calculated as the best of the last 3 years to make it
fair for people who have always had students but couldn't for the
last year
eg maternity leave .
Elaine Morgan is gathering the information together to calculate
this)
Eg. 1
A senior 1 on 4th increment under Whitley who earned £600 STA in a
year.
£26,640 +£600 = £27,240 (total earnings)
Therefore move on to point 30 on the afc scale i.e £27,917
Eg. 2
A senior 1 on 4th increment under Whitley who earned £200 STA
£26,640 +£200 = £26,840
Therefore move onto point 29 on the afc scale.
In the second example STA does not impact on the increment
because the STA did not take them over the incremental threshold.
