Salford Triathlon - Frequently Asked Questions

I am not fit enough
The main purpose of entering teams into the relays is to motivate people into becoming fitter by providing a fun, friendly event in which to take part in. We are not looking for super fit athletes rather people who want to get a bit fitter and have a great day out.

I would like to take part and get fitter in the process but don't know how to start.
Last year we were able to put together some training plans for those who wanted them, examples are on the training plans link on the triathlon page.
It will be too serious
Like all sporting events it can be as serious or light hearted, as you want to make it. Based on last years experience everybody had a great time and achieved a great deal from the experience.

How much will it cost?
The cost of entering a team is £75, however both the PCT and the Healthy Living Programme are subsidising the cost. So that the actual cost to participants will only be £10 prior to the event and then £5.00 day insurance. For this participants will receive a goody bag including exclusive T-shirt.

What equipment will I need?
Swimmers: a wetsuit would be desirable but not compulsory.
Bikers: a bike, and also a helmet.
Runner's trainers a t shirt and shorts

I would like to run but don't know any swimmers
Don't worry about the teams at this stage, unless you want to persuade two other colleagues to take part and create your own team. Last year we managed to find swimmers for each team and will do so again this year.

I want to be in a winning team
If you are looking for a real challenge and would like to compete in a team that has a chance of winning the event I am happy to put together a dream team. All you need to be able to do is either complete the swim in 13min or finish the bike course in 36 minutes or run a sub 17 min for 5 k.

I would like to swim but have never swum in open water.
The swim aspect of the triathlon is undoubtedly the most rewarding and challenging for the first time open water swimmer, however there is a weekly opportunity to practice in the CLEAN Salford quays on a Thursday evenings from about May onwards. Last year we managed to match up every one up with a wetsuit although the water will be warm enough to swim without one.

I don't have a bike
If we know well in advance we should be able to lend out bikes to both use on the day and to train on prior to the event.

I don't like training alone
Once we have people committed to taking part we will be able to offer joint training sessions if required. Most participants will be starting training from scratch so we can operate a buddy system, where we can link people with similar abilities together
