Salford Triathlon - Event OverviewThe Salford Triathlon is one of the biggest and most prestigious sporting events in the UK athletic calendar. Being held on Sunday 30th July the day consists of a number of different events, all taking place against the stunning backdrop of the Lowry Centre in Salford. As well as the relay events there is also a round of the World Cup Triathlon series which will attract some of the fittest athletes in the world. For us mere mortals there is the team relays, these are staged over the sprint distance. The first team member will swim a single 750m lap of Dock 9, before running in to transition to hand the timing chip (which acts as the relay "baton") over to your waiting cyclist who will race over a 20km multi-lap route around The Quays. Your cyclist returns to transition where your eager runner will be waiting to receive the chip. Completing the home stretch, your runner will tackle a 5km course, crossing the finish line in the Lowry Plaza to the cheers of the crowd and the respect of your friends and family. Teams can be single sex or mixed and can consist of either two or three members. This year Bolton PCT has pre entered 10 teams which means that 30 members of staff will have the opportunity to take part in the event. Despite the image of Triathlon as a sport only suitable for the really fit the relays give the opportunity to undertake just 1 section of the race and we want to encourage both novices and seasoned athletes to become part of a team. The first step in taking part is to register your interest by emailing garrie.prosser@bolton.nhs.uk or phone 01204 907723 If you are able to persuade some of your immediate work colleagues to form a team then that's fantastic, let's have a "board members
team", or a "management team" or even a IT team! So what's stopping you!The Lowry
