Pre-School Support Team

Who we are

We are a team of qualified, trained professionals who have specialist knowledge and skills relating to pre-school children with development delay/ learning disabilities.

We provide a home visiting service to pre-school children and their families. Our work is based on the principle and belief of working in partnership with parents and carers. Our belief is that early intervention may prevent and/or reduce development delay.

We are part of the Child Development Team and work closely with other professional disciplines.

We provide the service in:

  • Child's own home.
  • Liaison in your local nursery.
  • Support in mainstream nursery through Nursing Assistants.
  • Liaison with resourced nurseries.
  • Liaison with other relevant nurseries.
  • A small nursery service for children with a learning disability and additional needs.

What we do

  • Carry out a comprehensive assessment.
  • Teach new development skills
  • Support integration into mainstream provision where appropriate.

Areas we cover include :-

  • Cognitive e.g. Reasoning skills
  • Self-help
  • Socialisation
  • Behaviour management
  • Fine motor
  • Devise individual programmes of care.
  • Carry out regular reviews.
  • Offer specialist assessment and advice regarding behavioural problems.
  • Advice and training programmes for toileting difficulties associated with a learning disability.
  • Assessment and management of disturbed sleep patterns.
  • Epilepsy monitoring and medication management.
  • Provide support to parents through working together.
  • Act as resource/information service.
  • Counselling.
