Community Dental Service

The Community Dental Service provides dental care for people who have special needs. This is a referral service and treatment is by appointment only. Referrals are accepted for adults and children who fall into the following patient groups: learning disabilities, physical disabilities, behavioural problems, medically compromised patients (who can be treated outside a hospital setting), substance misuse patients and mental health patients.

Children complaining of toothache are treated according to clinical capacity. General anaesthesia and inhalation sedation is provided on a referral basis.

If you do not fit into any of these categories, you should register with an NHS Dentist. Click on dentists for more information.

Treatment clinics are held in the following locations:

  • Lever Chambers Centre for Health.
  • Waters Meeting Health Centre
  • Farnworth Health Centre

Referrals are accepted from general dental practitioners, healthcare professionals, social services and education staff. Referrals must be written by letter or on the departmental referral forms.

Bolton PCT also works to improve dental health through its Oral Health Promotion team. For more information click here.
