EPILEPSY TEAM FOR ADULTS

Bolton PCT works with the Bolton Hospitals NHS Trust to provide services for adults who have epilepsy. New patients are generally referred to the Royal Bolton Hospital, but those with confirmed epilepsy can be seen by the PCT’s Epilepsy Team who are based at Horwich Clinic.

The team consists of two Epilepsy Specialist Nurses, with clerical support. They will see any adult aged 16 and over who live in the Bolton catchment area. Patients may refer themselves, but most referrals come from other agencies – such as the patient’s own GP, the A&E department, hospital based Consultants, Midwives, the Learning Disabilities Team, Substance Misuse Teams, Social Services, the Housing Department and Bolton Hospice.

Patients are referred either because they have confirmed epilepsy or have experienced a single seizure event.
