Service Provision

Bolton Primary Care Trust is responsible for ensuring that the full range of health care services is available to the people of Bolton. It does this by :

  • Providing community services as diverse as intermediate care for older people, audiology for children, podiatry, community nursing and wheelchair services. Click on the headings on the left of the page for more details on these services
  • Co-ordinating and developing the services provided by primary care contractors – family doctors and dentists, pharmacists and opticians.
  • Commissioning hospital and specialist services from other NHS Trusts – and occasionally from the voluntary or private sectors.

We are constantly striving to improve the quality of services and modernise the way they are delivered.

Most family doctors (GPs) are independent contractors, but Bolton PCT manages seven local GP practices and directly employs the doctors and staff there :
