District Nursing
District Nurses are Registered General Nurses with additional training in community nursing. They provide a home nursing service to housebound people living at home or in residential care. District Nursing Sisters are qualified to prescribe many products used in nursing care and they also provide nursing treatments for mobile patients in treatment room sessions within health centres and in some doctors' surgeries. These include treatments such as wound dressings, injections and ear syringing. Appointments must be made in advance to ensure that adequate numbers of appropriately skilled nurses with the right equipment are available at each session. District Nursing teams are based at all local health centres with the exception of Halliwell Children's Centre. For treatment session times please contact your local health centre. Each GP practice is also linked to a District Nursing team. Contact your local health centre for further details. The home nursing service operates from 8.30 a.m. until 5.30 p.m. Some District Nursing teams now have an integrated evening service, providing care until 8 or 9 p.m. Other teams transfer evening visits to the evening service, which is based at Pikes Lane Centre. District Nursing teams can be contacted by telephone at the following times: - Monday to Fridays: 9 am-9.30am, 2pm - 2.30pm, 4pm - 4.30pm. Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays: 10 am - 10.30am, 3pm - 3.30pm. If you need District Nursing care at home your GP surgery will refer you.
