Our Services
7-week intensive quit groups
These groups are the mainstay of the treatments offered by the Bolton stop
smoking service. With over 3000 people helped to quit over three years,
these groups last 2 hours per week for 7 weeks, just 14 hours to help you
become smoke free. New groups starting every few weeks.
“I felt it was a problem shared and I was helped to make a commitment to
myself.”
Bill, Horwich
Community Quit Groups
Designed to give the busy person access at a time convenient to them. No
need to book; just come along on the day and speak to the advisor. Groups at
different times of the day and early evening even at weekends and giving the
same professional advice and access to treatments as the intensive groups.
“With the support I got from Bolton Stop Smoking Service it was much
easier to stop than I had feared.”
Roy, Farnworth
One to one therapy
These sessions are held at Lever Chambers in Bolton on Mondays and
Wednesdays. Again intensive support coupled with information on what to
expect and how to deal with problems is available from a trained specialist
in stopping smoking.
“Bolton Stop Smoking Service gave me a complete new outlook on life
regarding not smoking, the coaching sessions are priceless.”
Teresa, Bolton
Pregnancy Service
Operating both at the maternity unit and in doctors’ surgeries, specially
trained advisors can help you stop smoking during this very important time.
An advisor can visit you in your own home at a time to suit you; they can
even help and encourage your partner to quit.
Pharmacy Service
All pharmacists can supply Nicotine Replacement Therapy to help you quit,
and are trained to help you make the correct choice from the available
products. Some pharmacists have received extra training from the Bolton Stop
Smoking Service in supporting people to quit. These pharmacists can also

Most of the doctors’ practices in and around Bolton can offer professional
help and advice in quitting. All GPs recognise the benefits for patients in
quitting and are trained in the latest techniques and have access to all
forms of treatment. The GP service is fully supported by the Bolton Stop
Smoking Service.

support I was given.”
Susan, Blackrod
Services at the Royal
Bolton Hospital
Bolton PCT’s Stop Smoking Service also coordinates the stop smoking services
within the Royal Bolton Hospital. A Stop Smoking Specialist is employed to
work with the hospital, training staff in giving advice to patients about
smoking. By working closely with the hospital the Specialist is helping to
design new practices and procedures so that any patient visiting the
hospital who wants to stop smoking will get advice and help to do so.
Information, advice and help will also be made available to staff who work
at the hospital and want to quit and for members of the public who visit the
hospital.
