Hilary Wareing

Co-Director of the Tobacco Control Collaborating Centre and is leading on Smoke-free Mental Health and Workplaces.

She is also Director of Public Management Associates leading in Public Health Nurse Development programmes and the Maternity Services work. She has a strong background in health service research and management as well as holding professional qualifications as a registered general nurse, midwife and health visitor. Hilary has Honorary Fellowships from both the School of Health and Social Care, University of Teesside and from the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, University of Coventry.

Recently Hilary has taken a lead role in promoting the application of the Transtheoretical Model of Behavioural Change to lifestyle and behaviour issues including smokers, safer sex and substance misuse. She has been particularly involved in adapting the interventions, developed by Professor James Prochaska and his colleague at Rhode Island University, for application in the United Kingdom.
